Femur Anatomy

The femur is the longest, strongest, and heaviest bone in the human body. It connects the hip to the knee. It is divided into head, neck, trochanters, diaphysis, and distal condyles.

Trauma Considerations

Femur fractures can cause significant bleeding (up to 1.5L in proximal femur). They require rapid stabilization and evaluation of blood vessels and nerves.

Recommended Technique

Complete inclusion: Always include proximal (hip) and distal (knee) joints in femur projections for complete evaluation of axes and alignment.

Gonadal protection: Use gonadal protection in young patients when technically possible.
